As the World Turns, Don't Give Up

When dizziness, vertigo and balance disorders regularly hijack your health, it can be hard to keep moving. But science shows that consistent, incremental challenges to your body are what helps you to heal and increase function over time.

To get optimal results, it is important to have a proper medical diagnosis and a relevant treatment plan. Unfortunately, many medical professionals can be indifferent to your symptoms, have no diagnosis, or worse yet, an inaccurate diagnosis. So be sure to understand and test-out the information that you are receiving from professionals. Don't give up. Keep moving.

Most importantly, keep looking for the right medical support, until you find the doctor(s) that hear you, see you and care!

No matter who you are working with, it is imperative that you take an active role in your recovery.

I found neurological physical therapy to be the first, big step in my recovery. But for my condition, ophthalmologist & orthoptist were a close second. EMDR (eye movement desensitization & reprocessing therapy) was also very helpful to overcome the anxiety issues created by chronic dizziness & vertigo. Last, but not least, my certification and training of the mind-body connection through Pilates was indispensable. I found ways to create neuroplasticity through movement constantly. It wasn't a class practice, but a movement practice moment to moment, all day long.

Using safe and helpful activities, I was able to build back my body's tolerance to movement. I used the science-based methods of strength conditioning, biofeedback and nervous system regulation to avoid symptoms and recover from reactive episodes more quickly.

Over time, and with great patience, I was able trust my body again, so that I could get back to many of the activities I loved! As the World Turns, so do I.
